moving bananeira

ugh. my hosting company pixiehost decided to disappear so i will be moving bananeira.com soon. they really started doing weird things end of last year, servers going down, helpdesk not available, and in the users forum a lot of people said they were leaving. this week i could not access my mail and my site for days and since pixiehost.com expired, i figured all was lost.

i haven't been able to access bananeira.com from my home connection for a long time now and i have had to use alternative connections to update my site, how annoying is that?

the crazy thing is, i registered bananeira.com with pixiedomain.comwhich used to be part of pixiehost. sometime last year we all received mails saying pixiedomain will cease to exist, and all domreg-related stuff will go through pixiehost. now they are back online (with a completely different look); however i cannot login with the username and password they originally gave me.

which i translated into: the new pixiedomain is completely new and has nothing to do with pixiehost. however, i sent an email anyway to them and their email address was directed to a pixiehost.com address. and the email didn't even work, my message was bounced back.

how dodgy is that? long story short, i don't know how to transfer bananeira.com. it's really annoying as bananeira has become my identity in the last 2 years.

so yeah, this may well be my last post here. i'm thinking of going with these guysand i am also looking for a new domain name. any suggestions?

other things that made this not my week: someone illegally used my credit card in the UK. the card has been blocked since and mastercard says i'm covered by their program so probably no money will get taken out of my account. that remains to be seen.

plus i caught a virus from robert when he was ill last week, and i ended up with the same illness for a few days. the day i returned to work, everyone was on my back; i had six work meetings in one day! *mampus kan, susah emang jadi orang penting, huehehehe*

anyway, *belanda sedang maha indah* and ben is visiting from london so we are going for drinks and dinner in the sun. yay! have a good weekend everyone!

someone trying to tell me something

this week i had a couple of reoccurring dreams about gerard, strangely enough. in essence, he's been complaining that i don't invest enough in our friendship.

so i've been trying to dissect my dream as usual. i'm thinking that gerard in the dream represents certain person(s) who feels neglected or feels a lack of attention from me lately.

could it be my dad? does he feel neglected now that i am married?

well, whatever it is, i've been scrutinizing my relationship with almost everyone now. maybe i should declare the month of june as 'friends and family' month and blog about the special individuals in my life.

have a good weekend everyone.

:(

robert's been feeling poorly today so he went home early. poor little robert. he called me round lunchtime asking me to bring something light for lunch and when i brought his lunch to his desk, he told he'd been running at both ends. eww! he left soon after.

i wonder if it was my cooking? what could he have eaten that made him so ill? we'd been eating the same things (last night we had happy chikin and pasta, and fresh homemade fruit yoghurt this morning) and i feel fine. i really don't want a re-occurence of last summer's salmonella poisoning

*salah makan apa yah dia? apa emang masakan gue? gue paranoid karena seringkali kalo masalah makanan gini, pasti guenya fine2 aja tapi dianya bisa sampe tepar... hihihi, kurang banyak jajan di pinggir jalan indo tuh.... ooooo kangen sama sate padang yg di pasar baru*

going home to take care of husband now...

fleamarket + man at the jazz concert

we were walking through the center of den bosch last sunday, after we'd been to the fleamarket. i was looking for old medium-format cameras at the fleamarket, maybe i'd get lucky and find a treasured rolleiflex or yashica, and there were a couple of fodors in not-working order and polaroids and lots of super8s but nothing interesting otherwise.

i bought a wasabi-green 1950s zenith bowl for a tenner, bargain... also got a couple of 1960s/70s droste chocolate tin cans, with these lovely graphics on the sides.

in den bosch, a jazz festival was underway and the city was packed. we were squeezing our way through the busy streets when i had to pause and wait for denise and robert to come through the crowd. i noticed a well-dressed man standing near me by the heineken beer caravan.

he wore a smart corduroy blazer, in a navy blue that reminded me of my sister's school uniform in london. under the blazer, a cease-free white shirt, striped with thin blue and brown lines. his trousers were neatly pressed, shiny brown leather loafers.

dark blond hair, ruddy face, clean-shaven, maybe in his early forties, he had the face of a well-fed, preppy guy who probably was private-school-educated, whose parents owned a brownstone house on one of amsterdam's central grachts, and probably drove a bmw z3 (such a hairdresser's car, says robert)...

he held his pint of beer in front of him and his hands were really really filthy. his fingers was streaked with dirt, dirt under his nails, the skin dry and cracked. and the thing is, it looked as if he'd washed his hands, not like the dirt was fresh, not that he'd had to change a flat tire on the way to the jazz festival.

i wondered if he was a housepainter like robert's dad, whose hands are generally clean but permanently calloused and quite rough to the touch, or if he was a gardener or landscape artist, or just generally someone who worked with his hands, if he liked to sculpt with limestone or wood or maybe he'd been installing a new kitchen for his wife at home.

anyway. just my thoughts. i realise i miss working with my hands. i wish i made more stuff, designed more tangible things.

a little story about berlin

dear monica,

we miss you! it was good to skype with you last weekend. hope we can catch up again this weekend, if you are back from travelling.

berlin was fun! i liked berlin; definitely a liveable city, although they do have very strange tram stops. basically, the tram rails are in the middle of the road instead of next to the sidewalk. the tram stop however, is still on the sidewalk. so when the tram pulls up, we have to cross the street to get to the tram, and all the cars stop to give way. must be quite frustrating to drive in berlin...

there was this thing called designmai which is similar to the london design festival so we did make it to some of the exhibits. nothing really caught my eye though; there was a lot of clever objects but nothing that made me stand back and think, "wow! brilliant!"

it was so good to see karen again. i miss this comfortableness of being with someone you've befriended for a long time; we were talking non-stop the entire weekend, and sometimes i wonder if you also have this feeling in chicago, when you're meeting new people all the time, that you start to miss the old friends, people who know what you're like when you come undone, instead of new people asking you the history of your life. you know what i mean?

we ate a lot of german food: flammküchen, kaasspatzle, maustachen... yummm... stocked up on hanuta, duplo and paulaner (bavarian beer)... at one bar, we tried tannen zapple which is beer made from pinecones... sounds weird but it tastes good...

you can see highlights of the berlin trip here;. i've been too busy to post these days. plus robert and i haven't been taking a lot of photographs lately; we're on a photography slump, i think.

anyway, have a good week.

lots of love,

yasmina

karen

a few things about my friend karen: she lives in berlin, we share the same birthday, she made me love stereo total, she has a bright red peacoat that helps me identify her when she is walking in the street, she looks like a 1920s film star, her eyes are infinitely blue, she's so talented but doesn't realise it.

the last time i saw karen was around october 2004, about six months ago. she'd come riding into town on the weekend before monica moved to chicago. patricia also came down from sweden to see monica on that last weekend.

saturday, after karen had arrived, we went to the design academy degree show. i was so pleased to see karen and patricia and ended up having a great big catch-up on what's been going on in our lives; all of this heavy conversations around patricia's move to sweden from bogota, my conflict with my sister, consoling my parents, etc at the design academy bar, with a pint of beer in hand.

that night four girls went into town. we started at plaza futura, moved on to de rechter for some dancing. then finally de hoogste tijd for more dancing.

you know when you're dancing with your eyes closed and you don't care about who's looking at you, and you just want to sing along with all your heart because you're so happy? know the kind of feeling i mean? it felt so so good to be out with karen, patricia and monica again.

it felt like that first summer, cooking at elckerlyclaan, going swimming, riding our bikes, partying, daytrips out of town, weekend drives to belgium.

soooooo..... yay! hooray! we're going to see karen in berlin this weekend and she has promised us that we will go eat bratwurst, stock up on duplo chocolate bars and go on photography shoots! :)

quiet queen's day wkend

friday night queen's night party at ally's in amsterdam. pretty chilled party, except we had to leave in time to get the last train back here. august was over last week so got to chat a bit with him at thirsty thursday, and i thought he was going to ally's but i didn't see him there. oh well. i see he's been reading my blog.

didn't do much the rest of the weekend, just enjoying the good weather, eating salads on the balcony with robert, watching movies, der untergang (quite scary), collateral (yummy mr cruise), bowling for columbine (again). had a walk around town on saturday, eating ice cream and watching everyone in orange partying in the the center of town. trying to skype with mon in chicago but the digital echo was a nightmare.

nothing too eventful.

client meeting in amersfoort tomorrow and after work going to meet lely aka susje aka mrs schalken. i hope she doesn't take me shopping, omg... hehe, feel like tapas in winkel van sinkel. will i be able to convince her? *enak lohhh tempatnya lel, udah pernah kan lo?*

long weekend this weekend, four days, thursday and friday off, so robert and i are planning to drive to berlin to see karen, our dear dear karen. yippee! berlin here we come!
