This 10-week MA Final project outlines the process of investigating into phenomenon of scopophilia in online social networking and how surveillance techniques can enhance and support this activity.
The proposed Vexed concept captures mobile experiences of scopophilia, through a series of designed objects that create spaces and opportunities for exhibitionism and voyeurism. This concludes with solutions for revealing, concealing and camouflaging identity to preserve anonymity during voyeuristic and exhibitionist acts.
Observing the daily behaviour of my user panel, it was interesting to use their daily actions, such as chopping herbs, washing hands, turning on the light, as ubiquitous triggers for the VexBoxes to start recording and broadcasting. This leads into the hierarchy behaviour of the VexBoxes and the mapping of possible triggers and content for the VexBoxes.
Whilst on the subject of ubiquitous VexBoxes as sensors and using the modality of the smartphone and pen, it was also interesting to use spatial physical interaction rather than manipulating things on-screen. The VexPen acts as a tracer for the sensors to follow and act upon.
